| Trouble finding a humorous adult-oriented web comic series? About a week ago I found this supremely funny website that had these short 1-4 page comics. I randomly stumbled on it and cleared my history (performance issues) and realized too late that I didn't remember the sites name. First time going there, it gave a warning something like this: "This site was originally intended to be pornographic but quickly became humorous instead. Although it is supposed to be funny, there is still nudity and graphic content. Must be 18--" That's only part of it, though. A few of the comics were about pleasing an ice queen, an architect obsessed with building labyrinths, a 'lazy hawk' that killed a bunch of gnomes with laser vision, and a few comics circling around a servant that gets abused by his queen/matriarch in various ways. I'd be immensely grateful if someone could help! |

| Cognitive differences in humor recognition between generations? I've often noticed that older, typically more conservative people find cheesy, sunday paper comic style and prime time sitcom style humor funny, whereas it makes me roll my eyes...yet if I have one of these people watch a show like "the office" or many of the shows on adult swim, they don't get it. I'm not proposing that either form of humor is superior, but seems like their form of humor is simpler...and predictable. Has there ever been research into this phenomena? Is there a cognitive difference in wit and humor recognition between gen-xer's and their parents and millennials? |
| I am not aware of studies in this but I doubt it's a true generational difference. Much of Adult Swim humor is recycled from way back when anyhow... And look at some of the retarded slapstick things that guys laugh at on Youtube, too... Personally, I find old sitcoms extremely funny - and I like Adult Swim too. I think, the different kinds of humor have always been there and people always laughed at somewhat different things. The real difference might be in the values/lifestyle more than anything. You used the words "cheesy" and said you "roll your eyes" - obviously, you hold that form of humor in contempt - it's a cultural thing, not just a cognitive thing, I think. There have always been people who held the slapstick humor in contempt - a 100 years ago perhaps even more so than now. From what I understand, brains do not really get slower with age, but short-term memory suffers. That actually could make some jokes harder to get (if you can't remember half the punchline, it's not as funny, no?) |
